Community work and development

Mary Scott Community Orchard

Working with a several partners and supporters, we took part of an existing city park and turned it into the first community fruit orchard in Richmond, Indiana. Residents and visitors may go here to to enjoy fresh fruits picked right from the vines and trees. An additional butterfly garden with indigenous pollinator plants serves to show visitors what the prairies looked like before the time of extensive development. This orchard also serves as an outdoor classroom that is available to students from three nearby schools. Students can learn more about and appreciate the food cycle and the natural beauty of the area.
